Evolved drain plug strainer
thingiverse
The drain plug, with a 57mm diameter, features computational geometry for efficient fluff and hair straining in large volumes of water without clogging. This variant includes an enclosed 30mm lead sinker volume to prevent the strainer from floating during high water influxes. A video demonstrating its structure is available at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K16VUzcdnqY. The shell is created with Grasshopper code, while an inner core model requires a tiny hole linking the outer and inner portions to prevent solid modellers from ignoring the interior surfaces. Laplacian smoothing using Weaverbird mesh tool enhances the model's organic appearance, but its impact on flow characteristics is inconsequential. The STL file includes a "tear-off" warp prevention ring and requires no supports for printing. To assemble, simply insert the lead sinker after pausing the print at an appropriate height to avoid contact with the sinker. This results in a robust, high-performance drain strainer that remains in place during heavy water flow.
