The model illustrates a supernova's transformation from the eruption that occurred on February 23, 1987 to its full-grown remnant. A more detailed image of the model at age 30 (2017) can be found here. The magnetohydrodynamic simulation spans 40 years of evolution, offering predictions about the future state of the remnant until 2027. After 15 years, a bright ring becomes visible due to interactions between the blast wave and dense circumstellar material surrounding the blue supergiant in its final days before collapse. The MHD simulation was performed using the PLUTO code. Orlando et al.'s study (2019) published in A&A volume 622 provides further information on this topic, with id.A73 being the specific reference.
