Jean Arp was a German-French sculptor who made significant contributions to the surrealist movement, and he's actually credited with helping found the Dada movement back in 1916. The surrealist movement drew inspiration from dreams and the subconscious, linking the unconscious mind to the world we experience every day. Jean Arp paved the way for this movement as his abstract work influenced many surrealists who followed in his footsteps. Alongside Joan Miró's paintings, Jean Arp's sculptures and reliefs laid the groundwork for the abstract realm of biomorphic forms, which became a key element in much surrealist art.
