Name: Spiral Horsetail Tree Scientific: Calamites undulatus About this Package: This package contains a comprehensive series of staged models representing the entire lifecycle of a single plant species. It includes staged models for maturity and health, totaling 24 unique models. The same species can be found in 12 separate variations within the EVERYPlant store, each containing a subset of these staging models and additional model variations. The exact plant variation included in this extended package is exclusive and cannot be found elsewhere. Habitat: This extinct tree-sized plant thrived during the Carboniferous to early Permian Period, approximately 360-250 million years ago. It predominantly inhabited sandy riverbanks and floodplains, playing a significant role in prehistoric forest ecosystems. Range: Fossil evidence suggests that this plant had a global distribution, with discoveries found worldwide. Notes: This extinct plant species is closely related to modern horsetails (genus Equisetum). Unlike their herbaceous counterparts, these ancient plants grew as medium-sized trees, reaching heights of over 10 meters. Their woody stems supported delicate foliage, and they grew in the sub-story of prehistoric forests. Several sub-genera of Calamites existed, with this species falling into the category Calamitina, being one of the most well-known. Terrestrial parts of these plants did not branch once emerging from the central stem. They grew from an underground network of rhizomes as well as from seeds.
