Spiral Horsetail Tree Scientific Name: Calamites undulatus Variation: 6 of 12 Habitat: This extinct tree-sized plant thrived on sandy riverbanks and floodplains during the Carboniferous to early Permian Period, roughly 360 to 250 million years ago. Range: Fossil evidence suggests that this plant had a global presence, with finds reported worldwide. Notes: The Spiral Horsetail Tree is an extinct, tree-sized plant that roamed the Earth during the Carboniferous and early Permian periods. Its modern counterpart, the horsetails (genus Equisetum), share a close genetic relationship. Unlike their herbaceous counterparts, this ancient plant grew to heights of over 10 meters as medium-sized trees in prehistoric forests. Although its stem was woody, it remained a delicate species that flourished in the sub-story of these ancient ecosystems. Several sub-genera of Calamites existed, with this species falling into the category Calamitina and being one of the most well-known. Upon emerging from its underground rhizome network or seeds, the plant's terrestrial parts did not branch. This species grew from an extensive network of connected rhizomes as well as from seeds. Models Included: 12 models in total Standard Model - 161,196 polygons - 6.44m tall. A fully mature and healthy Spiral Horsetail Tree suitable for most scenes and applications. Distressed Model - 146,751 polygons - 6.44m tall. Showing increased foliage damage and disease, as well as missing and broken foliage, this model simulates a plant in decline. Unhealthy Model - 95,658 polygons - 4.45m tall. In a relatively poor state with much of its foliage missing or diseased, this model depicts an unhealthy Spiral Horsetail Tree. Dying Model - 90,518 polygons - 4.45m tall. A plant just hanging onto life and showing only unhealthy and diseased foliage, this model captures the final stages of decay. Dead Model - 64,750 polygons - 4.01m tall. Showing only dead foliage, with a possible broken stem, this model simulates a completely lifeless Spiral Horsetail Tree. Uprooted Model - 78,120 polygons - 1.72m tall. A dead or dying plant fallen onto its side, the stem may be full or broken in this model. Ancient Model - 188,550 polygons - 7.69m tall. The Spiral Horsetail Tree at its full growth height and maturity level. Young Mature Model - 115,813 polygons - 4.56m tall. A fully mature but not yet fully grown Spiral Horsetail Tree suitable for scenes requiring a younger plant. Young Model - 74,951 polygons - 2.59m tall. A young Spiral Horsetail Tree still growing and developing its foliage. Immature Model - 46,087 polygons - 1.02m tall. A very young Spiral Horsetail Tree yet to reach its mature aspect. Seedling Model - 35,310 polygons - 55.43cm tall. The earliest stage of a Spiral Horsetail Tree emerging from the underground rhizome network. Simplified Model - 130,271 polygons - 6.44m tall. A variant of the Standard model with finer details omitted for a lower poly count and mid or distant renders. Re-meshing available upon request to adapt models for specific requirements such as adaptive mesh for reduced poly counts, uniform mesh for easier editing, strict quads, tris, mixed, poly increase, or decrease. Additional modifications to models are also available upon request without additional charge for existing customers. Textures included in this pack are primarily 4k (4096x4096) for detailed renders and are the default map size included with each file format download. However, these may load slowly on some systems and may not be necessary in all situations. Medium 2k, small 1k, and tiny textures are also available to cater for different system requirements.
