Spiral Horsetail Tree Scientific: Calamites undulatus This Variation: 3 of 12 Habitat: Fossil evidence suggests that the Spiral Horsetail Tree thrived in ancient environments from the Carboniferous to early Permian Period, approximately 360 to 250 million years ago. It likely inhabited sandy riverbanks and floodplains, often as a secondary component within vast prehistoric forests. Range: Global distribution is indicated by fossils discovered across various continents, suggesting that this plant species was widespread and adaptable. Notes: The Spiral Horsetail Tree is an extinct genus closely related to modern horsetails (genus Equisetum). Unlike its herbaceous counterparts, this ancient plant grew into medium-sized trees reaching heights over 10 meters. Its woody stem supported a delicate, non-branching structure that emerged from underground rhizomes and seeds. Several sub-genera of Calamites existed, with the Spiral Horsetail Tree falling under the category Calamitina. Included in this Package: 12 models in total Standard -- 142,980 polygons -- 5.36m tall.
