Seashore Palm Scientific: Allagoptera arenaria This Variation: 8 of 12 Habitat: Grows in sandy soils, particularly beach-side, in tropical and subtropical regions. Range: Endemic to the east side of Brazil, it has since spread to many tropical and subtropical beaches. Notes: A small palm often found in sandy dunes along tropical and subtropical beaches. It has a subterranean trunk rarely seen above ground. Fossil records show this is a very old plant, probably predating all other palms.
