Seashore Palm Scientific: Allagoptera arenaria This Variation: 7 of 12 Habitat: Grows in sandy soils, especially on tropical and sub-tropical beaches. Range: Native to the east side of Brazil, it has since spread to many tropical and sub-tropical coastlines. Notes: A small palm often found in sandy dunes along tropical and sub-tropical shores. It has a hidden trunk rarely seen above ground. Fossil records show this is an ancient plant, probably older than all other palms.
