Name: Seashore Palm Scientific: Allagoptera arenaria This Variation: 1 of 12 Habitat: Growing in sandy soils, particularly on beach-side locations, in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Range: Endemic to the east side of Brazil, it has since spread to many tropical and sub-tropical beaches. Notes: A small palm often found in sandy dunes along tropical and sub-tropical beaches. It has a subterranean trunk rarely seen above ground. Fossil records show this is an extremely old plant, probably predating all other palms.
