Scarlet Bottlebrush: Melaleuca rugulosa Scientific Name: Scarlet Bottlebrush Variation: 2 of 12 Habitat: This shrub thrives in shrublands and forests near swamps and watercourses where it grows in sandy depressions with seasonally moist soils. Range: Naturally occurring from South Australia's southeast corner to western Victoria, including the Eyre Peninsula. It is found in mallee scrubs and low open woodlands in the northern Grampians, Big Desert, Little Desert, and Mount Lofty Ranges. Notes: A shrub with an open straggly habit, stiff, sharply pointed leaves, and bright red bottlebrush flowers tipped with yellow in summer. Growing up to 5m tall, its flowers are a shade of red to purple, tipped with yellow, arranged in spikes around the branches that continue to grow after flowering.
