Range: This tree is native to Australia, but it has spread across the continent, often alongside inland waterways. As a highly valued plantation species, it is cultivated worldwide, sometimes with unintended consequences. It has become a rampant invasive species in many countries and has been introduced unintentionally to North America, Europe, and Asia. Notes: The River Red Gum holds a special place as an iconic Australian tree and the most abundant on its native continent. With incredible speed, this tree can reach 45 meters tall. However, it is infamous for shedding massive branches – sometimes exceeding half of the trunk's diameter – without warning, earning it the nickname "widow-maker." This behavior might serve to conserve water or result from its brittle wood structure.
