Ovate Sigillaria Scientific: Sigillaria mammillaris About This Package: This package offers an extensive and comprehensive series of staged models showcasing the entire lifecycle of a single plant species. It includes detailed models for maturity and health, totaling 24 unique models. This same species can also be found in 12 separate variations containing a subset of these staging models; look for them in the EVERYPlant store. The exact plant variation in this extended package is unique and cannot be replicated in any other package. Habitat: Extinct tree-sized lycopsids from the late Carboniferous to the early Permian Period (approximately 380-255 million years ago) inhabited a range of environments, but preferred the mineral soils of river floodplains. This preference for better-drained soils may have enabled it to survive the drying of the great coal swamps that led to the extinction of many tree-sized lycopsids during the middle of the Pennsylvanian Epoch (318-299 million years ago). Range: Fossils have been discovered in various regions, including Great Britain, the United States, Canada, parts of Asia, and Africa. Notes: Sigillaria had a single trunk, which often branched into a characteristic Y-shape as it aged. Very old plants may further branch out. The trunk lacked wood or had a very slender layer only. Support came from a layer of closely packed leaf bases just below the surface of the trunk, while the center was filled with pith. The trunk had photosynthetic tissue on its surface, making it probably green in color. Long, thin leaves grew in a spiral along the trunk but persisted only near its growing tip; on lower portions of the plant, where the leaves had fallen off, characteristic polygonal leaf scars remained. Growing: 118,434 polygon - 19.92 m tall. Plant is now in its mature aspect and growing. Health: Healthy: This model showcases a robust and thriving tree with full foliage. Robust: 247,814 polygons - 22.53 m tall. The plant is showing some damage and disease but is still doing well. Distressed: 251,688 polygons - 22.52 m tall. Showing an increased level of foliage damage and disease as well as missing and broken branches. Declining: 248,050 polygons - 22.55 m tall. Further decline in health resulting in more disease, damage, and broken branches. Unhealthy: 241,023 polygons - 22.59 m tall. In a relatively poor state with much of its foliage missing or diseased. Withering: 231,431 polygons - 22.53 m tall. In steep decline, reaching the point of no return. Dying: 220,551 polygons - 22.53 m tall. Tree is just hanging onto life and showing only unhealthy and diseased foliage. Morbid: 145,147 polygons - 22.13 m tall. Past the point of no return, now in decline and decay. Dead: 77,964 polygons - 18.55 m tall. Showing only broken and dead foliage. Dead and Uprooted: 78,116 polygons - 5.22 m tall. Dead plant fallen onto its side.
