Name: Noe's Medullosa Scientific: Medullosa noei About This Package: This package features a single model of a plant that is fully mature, healthy, and in full year-round foliage. It is specifically designed for budget-conscious buyers who need only one version of the plant. The same species can also be found in 12 separate variations featuring different stages of maturity, health, LOD, and other details; look for them in the EVERYPlant store. This specific plant variation is unique and cannot be found in any of the other packages. Habitat: This extinct plant thrived from the Carboniferous to the early Permian Period, approximately 360 to 250 million years ago. It appears to have preferred floodplains and swampy ground where it grew in the prehistoric forest sub-story. Range: Fossils have been discovered in North America, Europe, parts of Asia, and Oceania suggesting this plant had a wide distribution. Notes: These plants were small to medium-sized trees with fern-like fronds serving as leaves. They lack living counterparts today but superficially resembled modern-day tree-ferns. This plant is notable for having very large seeds; along with the size of its pollen, it has led some scientists to believe that animal interventions were required for fertilization and seed dispersal. If so, then this would be the earliest known instance of a plant-animal symbiosis. The exact placement of the fruit/seeds on the plant is unknown but thought to have been at the ends of fronds, as depicted in this model.
