Monkey Puzzle Tree Scientific: Araucaria araucana This Variation: 6 of 12 Habitat: Native to the lower slopes of the Andes, typically above 1,000m, where it thrives in well-drained, slightly acidic volcanic soil. Range: Found in central and southern Chile and western Argentina, its distinctive look has made it a favourite among botanical gardens and collectors, propogated worldwide. Notes: A fast-growing evergreen tree reaching 40m tall, often described as a living fossil having first appeared 200 Million years ago. It is the national tree of Chile. The origin of the popular English name "monkey puzzle" dates back to about 1850 when Charles Austin remarked that it would puzzle a monkey to climb this tree. As an immature tree, it has a conical shape and later develops its distinctive umbrella shape. Included in this Package: 12 models in total Standard -- 106,537 polygons -- 36.53m tall. A dead or dying tree that has fallen onto its side, possibly a full-length trunk or a broken one. Ancient -- 148,293 polygons -- 50.59m tall. A very old tree, larger than normal, considerably gnarled and with heavier, drooping branches. Young Mature -- 85,823 polygons -- 33.95m tall. Fully matured but not at its full height yet. Young -- 50,812 polygons -- 19.17m tall. A smaller plant halfway through its maturing cycle. Immature -- 5,162 polygons -- 6.07m tall. A small plant that hasn't reached its mature aspect. Sapling -- 1,248 polygons -- 1.68m tall. A very young and small plant. Displacement -- 1,828,887 polygons -- 36.53m tall. The same as the Standard model with displacement applied to the trunk and branches for added detail.
