Coastal Redwood Scientific Name: Sequoia sempervirens Variation 6 of 20 Habitat In its range, this tree grows in coastal mountainous regions where ocean moisture helps water it. The tallest and oldest trees are found in deep valleys and gullies with year-round streams that flow regularly and regular fog drip. Range This tree occupies a narrow strip along the Pacific coast of North America; approximately 750 km long from south to north. Its most southern grove is in Monterey County, California, while its northernmost groves are in extreme southwestern Oregon. Notes An evergreen, long-lived (1,800+ years) tree, this one is also the tallest living tree on Earth at up to 115.5 meters tall and among the oldest living things. It is a valuable species for the lumber industry and fossil records show it once had a wider distribution.
