Miklós Ligeti, a pioneering Hungarian sculptor and artist, left an indelible mark on the art world with his unique fusion of impressionist and realistic styles. His oeuvre primarily revolved around creating poignant memorials and captivating portraits that continue to inspire awe today. Among his most notable works are the statues of Anonymus (1903), erected proudly in Budapest, the breathtaking Fountain of Peace, the enigmatic Mrs. Déry, and the iconic Cavalry Artilleryman Memorial (1937). The latter two suffered irreparable damage during World War II, necessitating their removal. Ligeti's decorative works are renowned for their elegance, particularly those adorning the Parliament and the stately Dria Palace. As a testament to his artistic prowess, he also crafted a statue honoring Major General Harry Hill Bandholtz, a US Army hero, which proudly stands in Freedom Park, opposite the US Embassy. A prominent figure within the Hungarian art scene, Ligeti served as President of the Hungarian Society of Applied Arts, while his ceramics enjoyed immense popularity. He remains one of Hungary's most celebrated impressionist sculptors, leaving behind a legacy that continues to captivate audiences worldwide.
