"The Atinoda Kestrel is the most powerful ship available to civilian printers. In addition to its already formidable compliment of game nerfing stats, this sleek, black vessel carries a pair of Lightning fighter-bombers (printed separately); this combination is the reason the Kestrel is classified as an escort frigate. Of course, Atinoda only sells this kind of firepower to the most reputable of extruderists." This is a recreation of the Kestrel from the 1996 Macintosh shareware game, "Escape Velocity." With no adjustments, this will print at 1:500 scale. There are two options for printing: a) Print the whole craft upright with supports (kestrel_full.stl) with supports enabled. Be aware that this has a tendency to mangle the trailing edges of the fins. b) Print the slotted fuselage (layer height: at least 0.2mm), three fins, and the two winglets (layer height 0.12mm). Glue the winglets to two of the fins. After drying, insert the fins into the fuselage slots and secure them with a fillet of glue. I've found white Elmer's glue to be sufficient for both steps. -- Please do not use the "Tip the designer" button for this piece. I wish I could tell you to register the original game, but as the publisher is defunct, there is no such opportunity to do so. As the original author of the game is an aviation enthusiast, I suggest a donation to your nearest Angel Flight organization.
