One of Italy's most stunning yet overlooked design pieces is the sleek radio lamp produced by Europhon, designed by Adriano Rampoldi around 1970. Tracking down information on this Space Age masterpiece proves extremely challenging: Europhon was founded in Milan after World War II and offered a range of functional, affordable, and captivating radio designs that quickly gained popularity. The company became renowned for its innovative hybrid products (the radio-clock, the radio-television, and the radio-lamp) all designed by Rampoldi, but unfortunately, these items suffered from bold business decisions which ultimately led to their decline. However, time has a way of vindicating companies like Europhon, and their creations are now featured in books such as "L'Utopie du tout plastique," alongside famous designs from well-known companies. The original radio lamp boasts three buttons: two for adjusting light intensity (soft and full) and one for turning on the transistor radio. The base is made of ABS while the diffuser is crafted from polymethacrylic. As we navigate this period of coronavirus, my mind has wandered back to this object that was carelessly left behind in a previous home. Its pill-shaped design was perfectly suited for boosting morale during those trying times. Determined to revive this nostalgic piece, I decided to recreate it using the ARDITI ASIN: B07SNFQBMY wiring kit, which is remarkably affordable online. Regrettably, I had to expedite the process by omitting the radio component and focusing solely on the design of the luminous sector. This involves printing four separate pieces without supports; however, it may be necessary to secure the lighting body with at least two screws.
