Ethernet (RJ45) Plug broken lock tab fix
cults3d
This quick fix is perfect for when your ethernet cable's lock-tab snaps, but you can't or don't want to re-crimp those plugs. The idea came from this clever design on Thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:972153. I wanted a self-sufficient solution, so here it is. When RJ45 lock-tabs break, the remaining end still has the tab's attachment point. This design secures that leftover piece as if the original tab was still there. I print this tiny fix in translucent PLA from colorfabb.com for a more suitable look. My slow prints use a 0.2mm layer height with a 7-layer raft and soluble attachment to ensure they stick well. One tip: If your RJ45 socket is buried deep within a plastic enclosure, like my printer's case, you should use the rj45_repair.stl file instead. It provides better flexibility without a spring and still fits perfectly into the socket (since you won't be unplugging it often).
