Ethernet (RJ45) Plug broken lock tab fix

thingiverse

This is a rapid and trustworthy fix for when your Ethernet cable's locking tab becomes detached, yet you lack access to crimp those plugs. The concept behind this solution came from Thingiverse, specifically this item http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:972153, which I adapted to make it an entirely standalone product. Noticing that damaged RJ45 lock tabs often leave a lingering edge, where the broken tab previously met the plug, this design captures that residue and holds it securely in place, replicating the original locking mechanism. For my 3D print, I used translucent PLA from ColorFabb due to its superior finish on small parts. I produce prints with an optimized speed setting of 0.2mm layer thickness. Additionally, I always deploy a 7-layer raft with a soluble attachment method to guarantee stable results. A vital note: if you possess a concealed RJ45 socket embedded within your printer casing (like in my own scenario), it is recommended to use the file 'rj45_repair.stl.' Although this design flexes slightly, its performance and fit into the socket are more than acceptable, especially given the reduced need for frequent replugging.
