Ethernet Cable Spool
thingiverse
I'm a network engineer who needed a solution to keep my Ethernet cables in order when traveling. I came up with this custom-designed cable spool that can handle cables of all lengths. Its large size allows it to fit easily in my printer (with a diameter of 6 inches), and its design keeps the bend radius within spec for CAT5e cables. The spools feature standard Ethernet plug-sized openings, which gives me ample space for a 3-meter cable. While I suspect it could handle a longer 5-meter cable, I haven't found one to test yet. The idea for this spool was inspired by those made for USB and audio cables. I wanted something that would help me organize my Ethernet cables in a practical way. This is an entirely new design from scratch, not just a variation of the others, but a complete creation tailored specifically for Ethernet cables. This particular spool has been designed with right-handed users in mind, allowing easy handling when removing or replacing the cable. Additionally, its smooth surface and angle layout (all 45 degrees or less) make it printable without any additional supports, eliminating extra costs during production.
