UPDATE: I've added a Version 3 of the tray with a little more rigidity built in. I have two eBoxes and the original design works fine with one, but has warped a little over time in the other. The extra fillets and bulk should stop that happening. I've also added a 3.5mm spacer, alongside the original 3mm spacer, as the original is sometimes a little thin depending on your printer settings.

This is a remix based on a remix of a remix!

The eSun eBox is flawed in many ways and is not value for money at ~£60 here in Scotland, and I can't understand how eSun thought it was even half way to being ready for market (even the updated V2 still has some garbage features), but with a few tweaks it can be made serviceable.

Aside from the awful PTFE tube grommet (for which others have designed solutions), the big issue for me is that the roller mechanism is too narrow for a number of my 1kg filament spools, which has made it completely unusable with certain types of filament, like Rigid Ink.

I realised that the stock rod and bearings in the V2 were just wide enough to accommodate these wider spools if configured differently, so I revised the tray so that I could reverse the bearings and get around 10mm extra width.

The files include the revised raft and a cylindrical spacer (you'll need to print it four times) to pack out the shaft. Make sure you keep the metal plate and install it under this new plastic one.

There's also a thin clip add-on that you can glue to the bottom of the new tray, if you feel it's needed to reduce wobble/movement on the metal plate below. I find EMA plastic weld great for attaching PLA and most other printable plastic together.

Oh, and you'll two M3 x 10mm bolts...socket head bolts work fine with my spools, but you may need button heads depending how low the filament hangs.

(Whilst some folk have had issues with the stock bearings/rods, they've worked OK for me so far where the spools have fitted, and they actually run even more freely following this mod. If you find the stock bearings stick, this probably isn't the solution for you.)

Print instructions

Printer brand:
FlashForge

Printer:
Creator Pro

Rafts:
No

Supports:
No

Resolution:
0.20

Infill:
20%

Notes:
Supports are only required if you opt to print the separate (optional) base clip. The example in the photos was a demo printed in PLA on my old FDM printer. I've since printed it in PETG on my Prusa MK3S, and it works fine with the eBox's heated chamber. However, I tend not to use the eBox for anything more than keeping ambient air dry, so you may want to consider printing it from ABS if you regularly use the eBox at high-ish temperatures.
