This mashup combines a 3D-printed version of the Estes Luna Bug model rocket kit, exclusively sold by Hobby Lobby craft stores, with the X-15 space plane from the 1960s. The store-bought model rocket kit uses 13mm mini-motors, but this version can accommodate larger motors. An integrated launch lug employs a 3/16 inch (4.76mm) launch rod, and no motor mount is included. There are two versions: one with an attached nose cone and one without. The individual parts of the rocket are also available as separate components. Both the model and the individual parts can be scaled up or down to suit your needs. This design is scaled to accommodate an airframe ID of 2.07 inches (52.8mm), which fits into a standard paper or fiberglass airframe tubing of 54mm x 212mm (8.35 inches) in length. The total height of the rocket is about 15.5 inches (400mm), and the center of the airframe to the center of the fin pad is approximately 5.3 inches (135mm). Thanks go to Cybus for designing a nozzle that fits the airframe tube, available at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1243029. Similarly, WRRL designed an X-15 nose cone sized properly for the airframe tube's diameter, accessible at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2860970/files. The wings are borrowed from my Enerjet 1340 supersonic fin can design, available at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3829871.
