thingiverse

This is a replica of the plastic components used in this classic out-of-production Estes kit. This kit utilizes an innovative detachable fin unit that can be removed for display and attached securely for flight. Breaking a fin just requires replacing the entire fin unit. The parts are specifically designed to be simple to print without worrying about overhangs or support material. This results in additional parts being included, requiring some glue, but the process is very straightforward. Building To build this kit you'll need some standard model rocketry components such as BT-60 and BT-55 tubing, motor mount tube, recovery parts, etc. Download the plans from: http://plans.rocketshoppe.com/estes/est2054/est2054.htm You will follow these instructions for most of the build. Note that part 030400 is a 13.375" long piece of BT-60 tubing and part 030392 is a 3.25" length of BT-55 tubing. Refer to the exploded pictures included here to see how the parts assemble into the kit components referenced. The nozzle_base, nozzle_bell, nozzle_plate, and nozzle_tube work together to create the removable display nozzle. The fin_unit, motor_mount, and motor_tube work together to form the removable fin unit for flight. The lock_ring and lock_collar come together and are glued to the BT-60 tube to provide the bayonet mount for the nozzle or fin unit. There are two fin units included in this kit. One has slots cut out for fins made from clear plastic sheet, while the original fin units were crystal-clear so they appear invisible during flight. Achieving complete clarity with 3D printing can be challenging, making clear fin stock a preferable alternative. Print Settings Printer Brand: Printrbot Printer Model: Simple Black Rafts: Doesn't Matter Supports: No Resolution: 0.2mm Infill Percentage: 10% Notes: The parts are designed in inches due to their classic nature, so be sure to import or scale the files according to your printer's requirements. They can all lie flat on the bed for printing without supports, though you may need to split the nose cone into two pieces if it exceeds your printer's build area lengthwise.
