The remarkably preserved monument was unearthed at the central temple complex of Naranjo, a legendary Maya metropolis in Guatemala. The monument had been deliberately shattered by the Maya and buried beneath the temple courtyard's fill. Only minor damage resulted from its ritual dismantling, with no signs of erosion visible. Dedicated in 726 CE, the stela was carved shortly thereafter. However, in 744 CE, Naranjo fell victim to a ruthless attack led by Tikal's ruler, who left the city and its revered temple in ruins. The harm inflicted on Stela 46 likely occurred during this invasion. Discovered in three larger pieces and several smaller fragments, part of the stela remains missing. I captured detailed images of it using flash photography. The data was then processed utilizing Photoscan Pro, a high-performance software (the model displayed here is a low-resolution version). Geomagic Wrap was employed to reassemble the fragments. To create line drawings, orthoimages generated by Meshlab were utilized.
