• What does your name mean? The name Stegosaurus means "Roofed Lizard." • When and who discovered it? This Stegosauridae was first discovered in an expedition conducted in Morrison-Colorado; in the year of 1877, by paleontologist Othniel Charles Marsh. • What size did it have and how was it? It had distinctive plates that on average measured 60 centimeters high and wide. On average, it measured around 9 meters long and 4 meters high and weighed up to two tons at most. The most recognizable feature of the Stegosaurians is the set of dermal plates: there are 17 separate plates, highly modified osteoderms, similar to those seen today in lizards and crocodiles. • What did it eat? Stegosaurus was a herbivorous dinosaur, the plants it ate were largely conifers, ferns, and seed-bearing ferns, practically the only vegetation of the Jurassic. • A curious fact This dinosaur had a brain the size of a nut.
