Espresso tamper for Flair Classic

I bought a Flair Classic, and while I love the coffee I'm getting from it, the "tamper" (i.e. dosing cup) it came with was pretty bad. I didn't particularly like the look of their $25 "pro" tamper so I decided to design my own.

This was intended to just be a prototype but it ended up feeling pretty much perfect.

Anyway, I couldn't leave enough alone so I also designed a dualstrusion version.

Print Settings

Printer:

Artillery Genius

Rafts:

No

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.1mm

Infill:

100%

Filament:
Overture PETG
Transparent

Notes:

This is for the single-piece version. For the two-part version, I print "core" in PETG and "grip" in TPU, but feel free to experiment with other combinations.

Post-Printing =============
After printing, it's a good idea to sand it down, especially the bottom and sides of the base.

How I Designed This

The hard part of the core design was getting the correct outer diameter for the tamper; Flair doesn't seem to publish the diameter anywhere so with my calipers and some trial and error I found that a diameter of 39.5mm is just about perfect, at least with the PETG I used.

For the multi-material version it took me some time to get the parts to interface together well and remain rigid enough to not fall apart, but that's a very YMMV thing in the first place.

Category: Kitchen & Dining
