A Customized Espresso Tamper: A Remix of @alga42's Design I've created a 50mm version of this tamper, making some changes to its design and holder as well. The grip has been made slightly oblong in shape, which may not be visually noticeable but fits nicely into the human hand when it's slightly oval-shaped. As a result, it feels very good. The tamper end was changed to 50mm, allowing it to fit perfectly into a Salton-brand espresso maker (EX-96). I've also made the base thicker and removed a significant amount of material from the interior of the handle. Despite being at 25% fill, it still feels very solid, which is great. There are two files available: one for just the tamper and another for the tamper plus the modified holder unit. Although I haven't tried printing the holder yet, it should work fine. If you try it, let me know how it turns out. I adjusted the entry-point for the tamper to make it less shallow in design, as it looked a bit too shallow in the original version. This change will prevent the tamper from flopping out of the holder. Given its nice color match with my unit, I'm happy to just place the tamper on top (check out the picture). A fun idea occurred to me while printing this tamper: I could throw a few coffee beans into the cavity in the handle, and they would rattle pleasantly when shaken, yet not be removable without a hammer or drill. This is a cool feature. Another added bonus is that the white PLA filament (Monoprice) used is a near-perfect color match for the Salton unit, making it look great sitting on top. Print Settings: Printer: MP Select Mini Rafts: Yes Supports: No Resolution: .2mm Infill: 25% Notes: Without a raft would probably be fine too if you've got good adhesion and a nice smooth build surface. I also used a 2mm thick base-layer setting, as that's the business end. Don't want that cracking into the honeycomb interior with repeated use. With these settings, I was just under 50g of (PLA) filament. The hollowing of the handle saves you quite a bit. How I Designed This This remix was created using Blender, working from @alga42's original STL files. Thanks for the original work!
