Espresso Grounds Distributor - 58mm

thingiverse

This is a coffee distributor I put together for my 58mm gaggia classic machine (using a La Marzocco Precision 14g Portafilter for what it's worth), and this could probably be quite a bit shorter to fit this to be honest as it's screwed in almost entirely for my current usage. Perhaps the surface could be improved by making a design that is more easily sanded (like the single edge I've seen on some commercial units) as I don't believe threaded abs parts can be acetone-vapor smoothed, but I wanted to play with the spinning-based functions in Fusion360 a bit more so this is what I made. Feel free to CFD this spinning in a partially packed bed of coffee grinds for optimal coffee smoothing if you're real bored. I also used fusion's thread function to make this, and removed 10 or maybe it was 100 microns to allow the threading to slide smoothly, but I think creating a custom thread using the spiral tool would allow reduced overhangs for printing and allow tapers on the ends for better fitment. I've read that printing threaded parts tilted leads to stronger parts, but since I don't have access to a m64-4 threads/mm tap/die, I printed it vertically. Stresses are not so high along the thread. One could also print this with a metal washer or something relatively heavy inside to give it some momentum for smoother faster spinning. Perhaps I'll add this in a future rendition.
