Espresso Distribution Tool
prusaprinters
BackgroundInspired by Arabic Girih patterns and sawblades this tool is both good looking and efficient. The grip is an eight-pointed star this makes it easy to grip and twist.Design notesThe diameter for all these models are 58mm, this matches most enthusiast/pro machines. However, I have made the original model mostly parametric so just ask if you want any other dimensions.I have created 6 versions - Three different sizes and two options - one that needs postprocessing (sanding) and others that don't. To figure out which size to use please either measure your normally tamped puck. If you don't have a good tool to measure use the Coffee gauge print to determine which one suits your machine. Personally I would go for the one that needs post processing, without this much of the grounds will stick to the tool and make it harder to use. Initial designs had issues with grounds getting stuck around the tool, to solve this a sawtooth profile was incorporated. The sawtooth however had issues with ground retention so the profile was twisted. Now it works as an inverse drillbit, the edges pushes the grounds back into the coffee. Instructions:Print the preferred size and option For the best experience print with a high infill, around 50% will give the tool a good weight. Also print with adaptive layer heights, only the parts that come in contact with the grounds need this. If you are going to post process the prints make sure to have around 2mm perimeters and top layers as you will sand this down. If you have gone for the models with postprocessing, wet sand down the top layers until the surface is nice and even. I went up to 600p for the best result. Also sand other cylinder that goes into the portafilter, take some care not to round the teeth to much. After you are done with the print simply tamp, twist and enjoy
