Espresso Adjustable Palm Tamper
thingiverse
Palm Tamper with Adjustable Depth Control... Tamp is 58.8mm... Threads turned out to be very snug, so I made it dimensionally a bit too tight. To get the threads to move more freely, I had to work the components back and forth, but they still wind up tight. Adding some food-grade silicone grease might help. Ideally, I need to put just a bit more room in future iterations. I created this proof-of-concept as a test for my old dilapidated Hamilton Beach Espresso machine. Once I get my Rocket Espresso Appartamento in March 2017, I'll remix and post the design again to fit the dimensions of the Rocket Portafilter Baskets. Enjoy! EDIT: Working the components back and forth has made the threads run much smoother. When I thread the tamp into the main body, it spins freely now. However, there's still some drag from the walls of the tamp when threaded in. Lightly sanding the outer diameter of the tamp reduced this friction, but I may add more clearance on the next iteration. Note: This is an accessory for making espresso, so it should be printed with a food-grade filament for use in food preparation. I'm testing the design using PLA at this time. Post-Printing: Work the threads... This design has very tight tolerances on the threaded portion, which needs to be worked back and forth to get it moving more freely. It still has too much resistance, so adjustments should be made without tools. The thread clearances will need to be remixed for easier use.
