This modified design of the socket was crafted by tropics specifically for my use, available at https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:812793. The circuit used in the tester visible on the photo can be accessed here: https://circuits.io/circuits/2694992-esp8266-test-board-1-1. A flash ROM updater can also be found at this link, enabling users to upload their own binary to the ESP8266 via USB FTDI connection using a tool provided by NodeMCU on GitHub: https://github.com/nodemcu/nodemcu-flasher.
