ESP8266 Children Alarm Clock
thingiverse
As I'm the first one in our household to wake up on weekends, my son asked me to build him an alarm clock. Since he can't read time yet, he requested a model with a LED that signals different colors depending on whether it's okay to get out of bed or not. My daughter, being a bit older and able to read the clock, also liked the idea but had some additional requirements. She asked for a display so she could see the time easily. Additionally, she thought it would be nice if the device showed the outside temperature, allowing her to decide what clothing is suitable for the day. This project uses an ESP8266 microcontroller, an OLED screen, and WS2812 LED. The firmware makes a periodic NTP request every hour to keep the clock in sync with current time. I hope this information is helpful to other fathers who might be looking for a similar project. You can check my progress and more pictures on http://lazyzero.de/en/elektronik/esp8266/oled_clock/.
