sketchfab
The statue is a capite velata, reworking of the Koré types from the Vatican and Demeter Uffizi-Doria, carved in white Parian marble (Noguera, 2012: 81). It emerged on the scene of Segobriga's theater (Hispania Citerior, Cuenca) during A. Díaz Martos' campaign in 1962. It was found in soil fillings in front of the intercolumnar spaces of the scene (Basch and Almagro Gorbea, 1982: 34). The statue is fractured into several parts, later reassembled and restored so that it can still be observed in the Cuenca Museum. The arrangement and typology of this sculpture appear in Attic reliefs from the second half of the fourth century BC and refer to a model possibly created by Praxiteles' disciples around 300 BC (Noguera, 2012: 81-82). According to J.M. Noguera, 'it is a reworking that originated on the basis of late classical types from the fourth century BC [...] and may have formed part of a dynastic group commissioned in Caligula's era for the theater' (2012: 84).
