Escudo de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires - The Coat of arms of Buenos Aires

thingiverse

The official Coat of Arms of Buenos Aires is used by the different areas and government departments of the City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. This shield represents the two founding ships of Buenos Aires and protection from the Holy Spirit through a dove; until 2012 it also included an anchor symbolizing its status as a port and anchorage. The Coat of Arms should not be confused with the city's coat of arms, which appears on the flag. In 1972, the City Government of Buenos Aires began using a highly stylized version of the shield, designed for mass graphic reproduction as part of the Visual Plan for Buenos Aires under Mayor Montero Ruiz. In subsequent years there was inconsistent use between this design and different representations of the official shield. A logo based on the shield was created in 1997 after a competition; initially, confusion arose due to an error, but official sources clarified that it was just a logo and not the city's shield. The logo is an abstract and stylized version of the shield, with two colors (lighter figures). In November 2012, the Porteña Legislature approved a law modifying and restoring the original format of the shield. The new symbol consists of a refined version of the one approved on July 7, 1856 by the Buenos Aires Municipal Council and sanctioned by Ordinance on December 3, 1923. It features an oval with the image of the Río de la Plata, two ships representing the city's two founding events, and a white dove with its wings open over the sky.
