cults3d
This stunning statue was once owned by Domenico Biondo, a personal servant to Pope Paul V Borghese, before entering the esteemed Scipione Borghese collection in 1806. The wings, arms, and legs of Eros, previously known as the Genius Borghese, have been skillfully modernized. In the eighteenth century, it captivated the attention of Winckelmann, a renowned German art historian and archaeologist who paved the way for understanding Hellenistic works, clearly distinguishing between Greek, Greco-Roman, and Roman art styles. Today, this masterpiece is regarded as one of the seven most significant acquisitions in the Borghese collection by France.
