The iconic Statue of Count Ernst Rüdiger von Starhemberg proudly stands at the heart of Vienna's Town Hall Square. A striking portrait of Staremberg, crafted by Johann Feßler in 1867, once graced the balustrade of the Elisabeth Bridge until 1897. Since 1902, it has taken its place alongside seven other influential figures from Vienna's rich history on Rathausplatz. Count Ernst Rüdiger von Starhemberg, a legendary military leader, played pivotal roles in shaping Vienna's destiny. As the city's military governor during the fateful Battle of Vienna in 1683, he bravely defended his people against overwhelming odds. Additionally, he served as an Imperial general during the Great Turkish War and held the esteemed position of President of the Hofkriegsrat.
