Ericsson Ericophon

This is a 3D scan of an Ericsson Ericophon - a modernist masterpiece from Sweden, produced between 1958-1965. It was the first commercially sold telephone to combine the handset and dial into one sleek unit, paving the way for future telephone designs that would revolutionize communication. One of ten Museum treasures scanned in 3D for Hack the Collection, a groundbreaking public program at the 2014 Sydney Design Festival, which matched ten visionary Sydney designers with ten iconic objects from the Museum's collection. Over two intense days in the Festival FabLab, these talented designers creatively manipulated the 3D object files to craft their own innovative interpretations, thrilling an eager public as they worked. At the festival's conclusion, the designers' reimagined creations were 3D printed on MakerBots and showcased alongside their original counterparts. We view our collection as a rich resource waiting to be tapped for inspiration. We invite you to download and remix our collection, pushing it in bold new directions. We'd love to hear about the fresh forms and uses you discover - please share your work with us!
