I've been experimenting with different shifters in my Ford, and recently switched to one with a splined shaft shifter arm. This upgrade has provided me with a more secure grip and prevents slipping when the engine is running hot and heavy. Unfortunately, arthritis can make even minor slips feel quite jarring, so I'm still working on finding comfortable solutions.
