My Project Statement: The biggest organizational issue that students face while learning virtually is stray pens/pencils, hence the reason why most designs in this challenge revolve around the concept of a simple organizer. While these organizers do serve their purpose, they lack new ideas/innovation and are quite common. My design is the first of its kind, not only does it serve as a holder for your supplies, it takes on how you used to use pens/pencils, and refines it so that you can spend more time focusing on schoolwork. I achieved this by creating a holder that can be placed off to the side of your writing hand so that you can store your pencil with a simple turn of the wrist. This means no more putting down and picking up your pencil countless times every day; just flick your wrist to park it, and pull it out to immediately start writing. 1. What issues did you come up against? Some students had trouble putting their pencils in the hole easily in an earlier draft, so I had to do a survey to find the optimal size for the hole, and the height to suit all students. I also came across the issue of the holder moving around too much, which is why is added a hole at the front leg, for the user to either screw it in, or tape it to their table. 2. If you could redesign this what would you change? If I could redesign this, I would find ways to lower the amount of material being used while maintaining the proper structure, and I would try and get this out to more students to see if there are any persisting issues with the design. 3. How would 3D printing help strengthen your design? Only a 3D printer would be able to create my design efficiently, as there are many angles and corners that making it traditionally would be extremely difficult. 3D printing ensures that my design is strong, as it creates it all in one piece.
