Eratosthenes Shadow Experiment--Globe vs Flat Earth
thingiverse
This is a remix from Tinkerlab's globe model and AJsRaceway's flat earth coaster. Tinkerlab's globe model allows people to recreate Eratosthenes's experiment, where the differences in shadows cast at noon in two Egyptian cities allowed him to calculate the circumference of the (ball-shaped) Earth. Establishing that shadows fall in a way consistent with a globe model is generally where the experiment ends. I thought I'd take it one step further by enabling people to compare how the shadows fall in a hypothetical flat earth model.
