Compared to circular drum designs, elliptical drums excel in leveraging the capabilities of the rover, offering several key advantages: they are better suited for gathering regolith in low gravity environments; rover swing arms play a crucial role in providing part of the work needed to collect and retain regolith; and higher drum volume fill percentages can be achieved. Dimensions: Length: 360 mm, Width: 400 x 280 ellipsis not including scoops, fitting entirely within a 450 mm diameter circle; Mass: 4.94 kg (aluminum 6061 construction); Internal volume: 27.5 liters; Estimated regolith volume collection: 17.87 liters - Estimated volume fill: 65%. Experimental setup (1:5 scale with approx. 50% material density compared to regolith) yielded a 62.6% volume fill and the equivalent of 17.21 liters collected, as detailed in the included .pdf file.
