Epoxy Mixing Beakers

Epoxy Mixing Beakers

I recently worked my first project that called for 2 part epoxy to be poured into the final project. The process requires little disposable containers for mixing the epoxy My kit only included 2 (that were) the wrong size for my pour, so I decided to get modeling.

This project includes 3D printable beakers designed for mixing and pouring 2-part epoxy that requires a 50-50 mix of resin to hardener.

Printing

Estimate the amount of epoxy needed and select the appropriate beaker size. The sizes I published are for the total amount of epoxy; the beakers include extra head space for mixing.

With a 0.4 nozzle on the printer, your slicer should slice the beaker to have 4-walls which is generally leak-proof enough, since the resin and hardener are pretty thick.

Use a light-colored filament, not necessararily transparent, but definitely translucent. PLA or PETG should be fine, but really 'dry' is preferred to make a beaker that doesn't leak.

Also print a stir stick. Several lengths are available.

Using

Given that there is a possibly of some resin leaking, Make sure to follow all recommended precautions for working with Epoxy, latex/nitrile gloves, surface spill protection, etc. Epoxy is nasty stuff.. don't spill it.

There are two lines inside the beaker. Pour resin into the beaker up to the first line. Then add hardener upto the second line. Add pigment, if desired, and gently stir.

Tip: When pouring, I put a flashlight on the table next to the beaker. The light shining through the beaker helps me see when I reach the lines.

Customizing

Open EpoxyMix.scad in OpenSCAD and ensure the Customizer is NOT hidden. Enter the desired size of your beaker, then Render (F6) And Export as STL (F7)
