Epicycloids as Mobiles

Epicycloids as Mobiles

thingiverse

This openSCAD code produces a series of three-dimensional epicycloids by extending them along the z-axis, similar to the pentagram ornaments. Epicycloids range from a cardioid with one cusp to a nephroid with two, and can have up to six cusps; as the number of cusps increases, they resemble a circle. Included STL files feature diverse epicycloid designs: cardioid_mark_1.stl, nephroid_mark_2.stl, epicycloid_mark_3.stl, epicycloid_mark_4.stl, epicycloid_mark_5.stl, and epicycloid_mark_6.stl. Single-sided versions are provided for ease of printing, as double-sided ones can be more challenging. Printing single-sided files directly on the build surface is possible; alternatively, gluing two single-sided prints together yields double-sided results, as shown in the image above.
