This vibrant countenance, slightly tilted, sports the characteristics of a young adult, possibly an athlete in his prime. The head, part of a statue known solely from this fragmented illustration, was likely based on a classic type developed by the renowned school of Greek sculptor Polykleitos during the late 5th century BC.
