Miletus, an ancient city in modern-day Turkey, was once fortified behind the imposing "Goths' Wall". Archaeologists excavating the site in 1905 uncovered a treasure trove of artifacts, including a stunning marble throne dating back to between 540 and 520 BC. This exquisite box-shaped throne draws direct inspiration from ancient Near Eastern designs, underscoring the remarkable social standing of its original occupant - a woman of great influence. On the right side of the throne, faint remnants of an ancient votive inscription still linger, offering a poignant glimpse into the past.
