The Imperial Camel Corps Memorial stands proudly in Victoria Gardens, Thames Embankment, London. In 1921, it was unveiled by Lieutenant-General Sir Philip Chetwode, the first commander of the Desert Mounted Corps, which included the prestigious Imperial Camel Corps Brigade that he led. Brigadier-General Clement Smith, who commanded the Brigade throughout its existence, was also in attendance, along with many other former cameliers. The New Zealand and Australian prime ministers at the time, William Massey and Billy Hughes, were both present as well. Bronze plaques on the front and rear of the upper plinth honor the names of all men who lost their lives while serving with the Imperial Camel Corps, including 41 brave New Zealanders. On either side of the upper plinth are bronze reliefs showcasing typical cameliers, featuring a side-by-side depiction of a New Zealand and Australian camelier. The bottom plinth bears an engraved dedication on one side and a comprehensive list of the principal actions the Corps participated in during campaigns in Egypt, Sinai, and Palestine.
