A recent update on October 20th introduced the solar piramid project, an actual experimentally built, non-commercial house that commenced operation in 2008. Constructed by private enterprise after tax profit, it took eight years to complete. Unfortunately, energy efficiency in Russia does not receive any tax incentives. Located at Tihookeanskaya Street No. 221b in Khabarovsk, Russian Federation (48°33'7.90"N 135° 2'14.50"E), the solar piramid features various innovative elements. These include a dual climate system with district heating and individual heat pumps, utilization of solar and waste heat from air conditioning to heat water and the ground, a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery for each apartment, a reserve water supply for several days, and a duplicate electric power supply system from a diesel engine. Other key features include metal-wood windows with high thermal insulation, a copper roof with all internal pipes made of copper, and three-layer brick walls with a 160mm thick mineral wool insulation layer.
