Endocranial Cast of John Howison
myminifactory
This is a cast of the brain of John Howison, who was the last person to be given over for dissection after execution before the Anatomy Act of 1832 came into effect. Howison was accused of breaking into a woman's home and murdering her with a garden spade. He claimed he was insane but his plea was rejected; today we think that Howison probably suffered from severe paranoid schizophrenia, although in 1832 this condition hadn't yet been recognized as an illness. On the night before his execution in 1832, Howison confessed to eight murders in total but further investigation revealed that no other murders had actually taken place apart from the case of the elderly lady.
