Ender Max USB extension adapter (fits to Y extrusion)
thingiverse
My original version just clipped to the Y extrusion but it didnt like to stay flush so I replaced it with a more permanent slot design. If the first pic looks like it is drooping a little, it is. But all those here now fit solidly with no hint of droop. The only downside being they now need to be slipped in place from the end rather than clipped in anywhere. I found my USB port to be a little delicate on my new board. It is permanently in use connected via octoprint and sometimes I had to remove and refit the cable (before I modded it to not carry power from the pi to the printer) when the connection dropped or the printer threw a sulk in warmup (a problem I actually fixed later). Rather than risk damaging the micro usb I bought an extension cable to save wear and tear on it. I chose one that went down and under the printer. These adapters allow for fitting the regular female usb to the underside of the Y extrusion. There are 3 versions. Version 1 has a clip to stop it sliding back further than the motherboard enclosure. v2 can slide back as far as you like, and v3 the same but it also has a slot for a small zip tie. Note that the version one shown in the pic was a clip in version, I changed the clip to a more substantial slide in keeping with versions 2 and 3. If you are using the same cable (if you are using a different cable, good luck trying to make it fit this) you will not need a zip tie as the cable fits nice and tight. To lock v2 and v3 in place just block them with a t nut, alternatively just use a drop of glue, it will easily break free if needed later. Because I use octoprint so much I rarely (if ever) need to touch the sd card and the extension makes for easy access to the usb if I need to unplug that for any reason. To that end I made a front panel cover that hides the sd and the cable. It was a simple design but it makes the printer lines look cleaner.
